GEAT has purchased commercial containerised laundries from AIG and installed in the communities of Angurugu and Milyakburra. The Umbakumba Laundry is due to be installed in 2024.
The commercial size machines make washing and drying large items such as towels and blankets very easy.
GEAT provides a washing collection and delivery service to support those without transport with access to their laundry.
The laundries not only offer health benefits to residents but also employment opportunities including jobs such as laundry attendants, drivers and garden maintenance.
GEAT has engaged AIG to manage the laundries and laundry attendees.
Promoting clean and healthy living, assisting in the prevention of skin sores and providing local employment is a key necessity to advancing health.
GEAT is a proud supporter of the MJD Foundation and provides funding for a number initiatives, programs and research that support MJD clients and families including:
GEAT funds nutrition programs for Warnindilyakwa students that attend in the 4 schools within the Groote archipelago which includes Alyangula, Angurugu, Milyakburra and Umbakumba Schools.
GEAT acknowledges and pays respect to the past, present and future Traditional Custodians and Elders of this nation and the continuation of cultural, spiritual and educational practices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
